The expertise of YPS staff is offered for the design of electron sources and columns as well as lenses and UHV systems for electron and ion spectroscopy.

YPS staff have many years experience in the design of electrostatic optical systems - lenses, energy analysers, thermionic and field emission electron sources and columns.

Software tools of several powerful types are available for simulations and optimisation of electron optical designs.

This expertise is complimented by experience in the design of ultrahigh vacuum systems as well as electronics and software for control of systems, data acquisition and data processing.

One-off Component Manufacture

YPS undertakes the design, construction and testing of special designs of field emission columns, electron lenses and electron energy analysers.

Characterisation of Field Electron Emitters

YPS has developed a high energy-resolution electron energy analyser dedicated for the measurement of the energy distribution of field emitted electrons. The instrument is used for measuring the energy distribution of cold field emitters (CFE) as well as thermally assisted (TFE) under various operating conditions.

This service has recently been extended for the measurement of the energy spread of microfabricated field emitters.
